Kanban — Permissions

Overview

This page documents the permissions used in the Kanban feature. Permissions determine which boards a user can see, which actions are available on boards and cards, and which calendar views are accessible.

For general access concepts and permission categories, see: Permissions & Access

Permissions

Permission Grants access to Requires
view Access the /kanban page; view assigned boards; add and edit cards; use My Calendar and board Calendar view
edit Edit board button (rename board, manage assigned collaborators); edit and delete sections on boards that were not created from a template view
admin See all boards (not just assigned ones); New Kanban button (create boards); Delete board button; Templates button and all template management actions; edit and delete sections on all boards including template-based ones view
general calendar General Calendar button and multi-board calendar view view

Note

The admin permission also includes everything granted by edit. A user with admin does not need edit separately.

Typical role mapping

  • Board member (standard collaborator on a project or department board)

    • view
  • Team lead / project coordinator

    • view
    • edit
  • Kanban administrator (manages boards and templates for the organization)

    • view
    • admin
    • general calendar

Troubleshooting access

  • If the Kanban menu item is missing or the page redirects on load, the user is missing the view permission.
  • If a user can see a board but the Edit and Delete buttons are not visible, they have view but not edit or admin.
  • If the New Kanban and Templates buttons are not visible, the user does not have admin.
  • If the General Calendar button is not visible, the user does not have general calendar.
  • If section Edit name and Delete section options are not visible on a template-based board, the user is not an admin. These controls are hidden for non-admin users on template-based boards by design.
  • If a board is not appearing in the selector, the user has not been added as an assigned collaborator. An admin must edit the board and add the user.
